Risuke is located about 20 km outside of Nara city and it turned out to be one of my biggest culinary surprise in a long time. The unasuming restaurant is vedge between a few major family restaurants and a supermarket on one of the strip mall street you can find anywhere in Japan. But… Risuke is not an ordinary restaurant!

Niimi City is a place full of surprises, yes, you read this right: Niimi City! If you don’t know Niimi, it is located about 1h30 North of Kurashiki and it has been one of my favorite stop for great food since I arrived in Japan. Ramen Tomare and Chiya Beef yakiniku are both worth the trip alone, but Yanagi Soba is off the chart . First, you will have to find this place!

I found Ten to Ten or in Japanese てん to てん on the very popular Tabelog website where it earned the first place in the lunch/café section for the year 2013. Tabelog is a very popular site in Japan and when you make it to first place, you can expect a horde of foodies to come down to your place.

We braved the wind and the rain to get to Habu Shokudou which is located right inside to the main gate of Naha harbour. This place is not on the regular tourist trail, but make the hike, you won’t regret it. I also suggest you go there on an empty stomach, you might even consider skipping a couple of meals before you visit Habu Shokudou. You will see why really soon.
