On my latest trip to Hiroshima, I decided to make the trek to the Yokogawa area and try Pizza Riva.  I found Pizza Riva on the Associazione Verace Pizza napoletana website, but one friend who lives in Hiroshima had already told me it was his favorite.

Tokyu Curry

Curry might be the last thing you associate with Japan, but it’s has been a national favorite since it was first introduced by the British navy during the Meiji era and was adopted by the Japanese to a point where it is considered a national food.

Japanese curry is an historical and geo political culinary dream come true and Tokyu Curry in Hiroshima which was suggested by a friend who knows his curry and it’s a great place to try Japanese curry.

Juu Hachi Ban Ramen: 18th Ramen in Fukuyama

I’ve driven in front of Juu Hachi Ban ramen shop for 3 years before trying it. The shop is located on route 313 in the center of Fukuyama city. I found this shop listed pretty high up on a Japanese ramen website, so I decided to give it a go.

Hiranoya Okonomiyaki

Before I came to Japan, I had never eaten a okonomiyaki.  This all changed on my first visit to Hiroshima city and since then I’ve been trying to find great okonomiyaki places.

Hironoya is one of them and according to my co-workers, this is only the tip of the iceberg. Hironoya is located in Fuchu city, just outside of Fukuyama. Fuchu is not a big place, but there is a small country road that pretty much goes from my village in the mountains all the way to this okonomiyaki shop.  The route 417 is one tight scary road barely larger than my miniature Japanese car.

Vittorio Pizza shop

Pizza, pizza, I want to eat a pizza!

I got hit by a violent craving for pizza yesterday.  I sat all day at work revisiting my favorite pizza: New York pizza, Montreal 1$ slice after a night out drinking, my favorite spot in Paris on rue des Canettes or the numerous pizza I ate in Italy.

Having so many references doesn’t help me appreciate Japanese pizza since I find most of them blend and topped with corn and other items which I believe don’t belong on a proper pizza.
