While I am perfectly happy with drinking the traditional Malaysian white coffee, I wanted to try The Coffee Jar as soon as I arrived in Melaka.
This is a new coffee shop and micro roaster located a minute from Junker street and the Dutch square. Location wise, it’s in the epicenter of the historical center of Melaka. Look for the Hard Rock Cafe, it’s pretty much behind it.
The Lulu mini roaster was the first thing that caught my eye. It’s so cute, I would love to have one at home.
The second roaster stands in the entrance of the coffee shop and they were roasting when I walked in.
You can notice the light roast.
I really like the decor of the Coffee Jar. They were playing cassette on a tape deck, how analog!
I ordered a drip coffee and my wife went for a cafe latte. The execution on both of these was perfect.
Simple latte art
The staff was friendly, the coffee shop was cosy and the coffee was most definitely to lightly roasted for my taste. It tasted good and if you are a fan of the third wave, you will be in heaven. I keep trying but my palate doesn’t seem to conform itself to the roasting theories of the third wave.
I am glad that micro roasters are so well located in the center of Melaka. Please visit them. I sure hope they will one day roast their coffee for an extra minute or two. Expect to pay a premium price to enjoy a coffee at The Coffee Jar.
