My family celebrated the okuizome ceremony for my son at the Ginza restaurant in Yorishima, Okayama. Okuizome is the first symbolic meal served when a baby is 100 days old.
Ginza is a traditional Japanese restaurant located in Yorishima. They started in the food business in 1936. Yorishima is a small fishing harbour between Tamashima and Kasaoka. The coast of the Seto sea in this area is quite beautiful.
Old fashion house
The restaurant has a few private rooms.
Our room
The first dish.
Fish paste
Sashimi with dry ice special effect.
Sashimi without the special effect. Please notice the tsukushi(horsetail).
Old tin kettle for the sake, priceless
Sawara (Spanish Mackerel) head. The head and collar were really good.
Bamboo shoot for the Spring menu
Bartail flathead tempura. I’m not a big fan of bony fishes and I cleaned my plate. That was really good.
Bamboo rice with tsukushi, soup and pickles.
Dessert
This whole menu was 5000 yen per person plus 18% (tax and service). Ginza has menus ranging from 5,000 yen to 30,000 yen.
We ordered the cheapest menu, but we were surprised by the quality and everybody came out full.
The 30,000 yen menu must be something pretty incredible. But we are thinking of trying the 10, 000 yen menu first… baby steps.
