Kiraku ramen, Tokyo

With a bit time on my hands, I let my feet and my stomach guide me in the back streets of Shibuya.  I made a right turn up a small hilly alley and I found Kiraku next to somekind of sex shop.

Line at 2 PM in front of a ramen shop, count me in!

Waiting in line at Kiraku is an interesting experience,  great spot for observing the diurnal habits of the Tokyo sex workers and their clients.  This area was packed with love hotels and sex workers going from one job to the other.

The ramen shop has two floors, I sat at the counter.

Kiraku had an English menu with pictures and I ordered a bowl of ramen with wantan and extra pork.  The service was very tourist friendly.

Very simple shoyu taste with great wantan.   The noodles were on the thick side.

I wasn’t really hungry, but the gyoza and the fried rice looked delicious.  I talked with two regular customers and they strongly recommended that I try the fried rice on my next visit.

Kiraku has been in business since 1952, a true Tokyo classic.

If you are in the Shibuya area and you want to try something a little bit off the beaten path, Kiraku is the place for you.
