We spent 5 days in Malacca which turned out to be a long and boring 5 days filled with amazing food. Malacca or Melaka is a stunning beautiful city, but you can visit everything in 2 days. We started and ended our visit to Malacca with the life changing Pak Putra tandoori chicken. Yes, tandoori chicken can be this good!
Pak Putra is a short walk from Jonker Street which was filled with tourists for the weekend market. After a day long bus ride from Penang, we were both cranky and starving. Pak Putra was busy when we got there around 7PM, but we luckily found a table.
You get the feeling this is a place both popular with locals and tourists. When a place is this busy, it’s a good sign. The open kitchen which we sat right next to was also a very pleasant sight.
The smell of the tandoori chicken kept wafting in our direction.
We started with a monster mango lassi.
The plain naan which made right in front of us with sauce was burning hot goodness.
One the first night, we ordered a small rice which turned out to be a huge plate.
We also ordered some spinach curry
Everything was great until the chicken finally made its way to our table.
The chicken was tender, juicy, spicy and unforgettable. WARNING: THIS CHICKEN IS SO GOOD, IT WILL SPOIL THE EXPERIENCE OF EATING TANDOORI CHICKEN ANYWHERE ELSE !!!
The chicken is the reason we ended up visit Pak Putra twice. On our first visit, we might have ordered too much food… go with many friends if possible, but order one portion of chicken each, there is no way you will want to share!
On our second visit, we skipped the rice. But my wife ordered a cheese and garlic naan.
We also ordered a vegetable curry.
The staff was friendly and let me shoot some chicken pictures.
Preparation of the naan.
This guy knows some very precious secrets!!!
Pak Putra should be on your foodie bucket list. Please don’t change anything, I will be back.
I have had tandoori chicken since I came back to Japan, but nothing comes close. If you know a restaurant anywhere in the world which serves an amazing tandoori chicken, please let me know. In the meanwhile, I am crossing my fingers that I will be back in Malacca soon.
