Kurashiki and especially the Bikan area are a major tourist magnet and I love to play tourist in my own town. I discovered Kura Beer Tei by reading a tourist guide about Kurashiki while sipping a cafe latte at Cafe Mugi. I think this little beer shop will make a lot of us happy.
Mt Daisen in Tottori Prefecture is a pretty imposing mountain with it’s 1739 m, but the purpose of my trip to this sleeping volcano was not to climb it, but instead to drink myself silly at Daisen G Beer micro brewery.
Where can you find a good pint of draught beer in the land of Asahi, Kirin and Sapporo? I finally found a place to quench my thirst in Hiroshima city;Raku Beer is a great little bar where Japanese microbrewery beer can be found on tap.
There is a special place in my heart for food served on a stick: corn dogs, lollipops or perfectly grilled yakitori, it’s just a great and easy way to put food into your mouth. So it pretty obvious that I had to try kushiage on my last visit to Osaka.
Kushiage or Kushikatsu is a speciality of Osaka. The idea is simple: impale some food on a bamboo stick, dip it in batter, deep fry it very carefully and serve it burning hot . It’s the perfect bar food!
