Yoroi Tempura
Yoroi Tempura is located in a residential area of Okayama between two busy streets and it’s one of these places where you feel like you are lucky to be eating such great food in such a secretive spot. Somehow, Japan is not a place where location is key, if the food is that good, people will just get there. By the way, yoroi means armor in English.

Cafe Rico Coffee Roastery
I took me a while to go to Cafe Rico Coffee Roastery but it was worth the visit. Please note that Cafe Rico is not a coffee shop, but a full on coffee roaster providing fresh coffee to a myriad of fine coffee shops all over Okayama and Kurashiki. I drank my first cup of Cafe Rico at Cafe Un Deux and it was soon followed by another at Machista.
Akari Nagahama Ramen
Chances are you won’t stumble upon Akari Nagahama ramen shop on your Sunday stroll unless your idea of fun is walking around Tamashima. Akari is one of these places frequented by locals where the food is cheap, plentiful and delicious.
Machista Coffee Shop
Machista Coffee Shop was very recently recommend to me by the owner of Tsuji Coffee in Kasaoka, so I decided to pay a small visit to this very well located café.
Sakamoto Kasaoka Ramen
Sakamoto ramen was recommended by two residents of Kasaoka and it was described to me as the real McCoy. The shop is located almost right across from Idehara ramen shop and it’s only a short walk from Kasaoka station.

Café Un deux comme chez vous opens only 12 days a month and I still don’t understand why after going there twice in the same weekend. If you don’t speak French, Un deux comme chez vous means “One Two Like your Home” and the place is indeed very homey. The name might be as weird as the opening hours but after eating their cake, I could not care less.
Yoshida Farm
I was drinking coffee at Union Bakery in Kurashiki when I met a nice French couple who recommended Yoshida Farm cheese and there is no way in hell I can say no to cheese. If you believe that Japan is not a country for cheese, you should keep up reading.

I once saw Idehara ramen on a TV show and I decided to visit this little shop located on route 34, right in the heart of Kasaoka city.

Orizuru Coffee Shop
When I decided to find Orizuru coffee with the help of my friend Brian, I was not too sure where to start. The owner of Blue Mountain Coffee Shop in Kasaoka had highly recommended me Orizuru, but he had simply told me it was near the big department store in front of Okayama station. Luckily, we spotted the shop right after lunch and it’s not the easiest place to find.
