Nishiki is an old style yakiniku shop located near Niwase station on the old route 2 (now route 162). I wanted to visit this place for a long time since it’s in the same family as Taiko, my favorite shop in Soja.

Ishiharu udon is a small shop located between Kojima and Tamano city. It’s technically on the Kojima side on a very narrow side road so small that you will miss it if you blink, but rest assured, it’s worth the u-turn.

Boke ramen ( ぼっけえ らーめん) is a popular Okayama ramen shop which has been recommended to me by friends and students and I finally visited the shop on a cloudy Monday. I must start by saying that my friends and students were right on the money, Boke ramen is worth the hype.
I visited Yanagi in Niimi city for a second time to try the Fall menu or to be precise, the October menu since the chef changes the lunch menu every month.
My quest for the great old Chinese restaurant continues and took me to the heart of Tamashima old shopping arcade. Kouchin has been in business for 55 years and it’s a gem in middle of this run down arcade.
I finally visited ベトコンラーメン or Betocon ramen and it took about 24h for the taste of garlic to very slowly vanish.
